And no we don’t have hot tubs

We did ask via a Facebook poll and we got a resounding NO from almost all existing customers and quite a few from guests who are yet to visit.

The general consensus is that our woodland site is just perfect as it is – and the cabins are pretty special too.

I’m not saying that hot tubs are not popular. In fact I get so many ‘do you hot tubs?’ calls that I looked at the ‘search terms’ used to find us and I found that for every one person who looks to stay in a log cabin in Whitby there are four who want a log cabin with a hot tub.

Thankfully there is one in every five who is either not that fussed one way or the other, or sees the positives of a private log cabin, surrounded by the sounds of nature with space to simply chill. And all those ‘ones’ seem to keep us full.

Price differential

‘Hot tubs are nice to have at certain accommodation but yours is so beautiful, peaceful and relaxing they aren’t needed’.

No having hot tubs keeps our pricing competitive – if we offered them we would have to charge significantly more which makes no sense when we have guests who love us as we are. There is the initial set up cost, installation (complex as our cabins are so far from the house and each other – and down a slope) and of course the maintenance.

Without hot tubs we can offer two luxury 40 sq metre cabins at between £100 and £145 per night, depending on day and time of year. And Treetops from £85. And both Valley View and The Hideaway do have slipper baths where you can relax and the watch the woodland through the window, knowing that when you get out you will be warm and cosy.

Time for doing – time for chilling

The fact that the walking from the site is so good and we are so near to Whitby also makes hot tubs less appealing. Most of our guests love Whitby, as well as the log cabin experience. Many of them have long days out followed by evenings in front of the log burner or under the stars.  I know that if I was paying extra for the luxury of a hot tub I would want to get my money’s worth, yet wood burning hot tubs take time to heat up and would involve a lot of ‘doing’ which could eat into the chilling time.

No especially if u end up putting a wood fired one in, whenever we stay anywhere with one we can’t be bothered with it takes too long

At the moment we don’t have sufficient electric to the site for electrical tubs- and then there is the energy use. As we have central heating in our cabins it might be seen as hypocritical for us to quote environmental reasons for not adding hot tubs but the other argument is that we have made the choice to use a resource to provide something that benefits all guests so we try to save in other areas. Peace and quiet

The ‘no hot tub’ lobby on our Facebook post mentioned the noise, both of the tub if its electric and of other people in it. TBH our cabins are so private and spread out from each other that you would be unlikely to hear others and we are not a group stay venue but we agree that a low lying hum from an electric one would clash seriously with the sounds of the birds and the rustle of the wind in the trees.

‘Having stayed here I’d say no need for hot tub, The charm is in the natural surroundings’

‘I vote no, it will ruin the peace that people come for. You have a very special place there and some of what makes it special is how cut off and quiet it is. You are our favourite stay for that reason. You’re perfect as you are. Xx’
